Mashups
I have always enjoyed working with existing materials and combining elements in new and different ways in my work. Collage and assemblage offer a means of reevaluation as well as opportunity to play. Painting back into found thrift store artworks breathes new life into paintings that were abandoned and neglected. And smashing & “repairing” porcelain sculptures allows me to overcome the fear of childhood retribution and engage in wanton destruction in ways that offer benefit as well, crafting humorous & unique hybrid creatures from the wreckage while simultaneously considering deconstructivist discourse.
